Foreign Economic Activity
More than 400 entities in Kirov region are currently engaged in foreign economic activity. 300 of them are corporate entities, whereas approximately 100 of them are individuals.
About 80 foreign countries are trade partners of the Kirov region; half of them have entered into bilateral cooperation with the region. The primary trade partners are far-abroad countries whose share in the region’s external turnover is more than 80 per cent, including about 85 per cent of export turnover and 75% of import turnover.
Among major trade partners of the region are Italy, Germany, Iran, Brazil, Mexico, UK, Egypt, Finland, Austria, Czech Republic, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Belarus.
The 2007 external turnover of the Kirov region amounted to 942,2 million US dollars, which is a 25,6 per cent increase in comparison with the 2006 data; the export part amounted to 815,9 million US dollars, and the import part totaled 126,3 million US dollars.
External balance was positive, with the surplus being 689, 6 million US dollars.
The regional export pattern shows the prevalence of petrochemicals – 50,9% of the total export volume, wood and wood products including print products – 20,7%, as well as ferrous and non-ferrous metals and respective goods – 7,0%.
The regional import pattern is dominated by engineering products with the share of 60,7% of the total import volume, ferrous and non-ferrous metal goods –12,4% and petrochemicals – 10,0%.
